What is the ATEN Corp CE700A USB Console Extender?

The ATEN Corp CE700A USB Console Extender is a device that allows you to extend USB keyboard, mouse, and video signals over long distances using Cat 5e/6 cables. This is particularly useful in environments where the computer or equipment is located far from the user, such as control rooms or server racks. By using this extender, users can maintain high-resolution video and smooth interaction with their devices from a remote location.

What type of connections does the CE700A support?

The CE700A supports USB connections for both keyboard and mouse, along with video output through VGA. It can seamlessly extend a computer's video and control functionalities to a remote display and user interface. This compatibility allows users to work effectively from a distance while ensuring that devices are easily accessible for maintenance or monitoring in settings like classrooms, conference rooms, or server facilities.

What are the maximum distances for using the CE700A?

The ATEN CE700A allows you to extend connections up to 150 meters (492 feet) over a single Cat 5e/6 cable. This long distance capability makes it ideal for applications such as remote access to servers or presentations in larger venues where the presenter needs to be positioned away from the computer. It ensures that the user experience remains uninterrupted without compromising performance.

Is the CE700A compatible with different operating systems?

Yes, the ATEN CE700A USB Console Extender is compatible with a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Mac, and Linux. This broad compatibility means that users across different platforms can benefit from its functionality without worrying about specific system restrictions. It's especially beneficial for IT professionals who manage equipment across various environments.

What kind of video quality can I expect from the CE700A?

The CE700A supports video resolutions up to 1920x1200, ensuring crisp and clear visuals even at extended distances. This high quality is essential for tasks that require detailed imagery, such as graphic design or video editing. Users can present their work confidently, knowing that the visual output maintains its integrity away from the original source.

Do I need additional software to operate the CE700A?

No, the ATEN CE700A does not require any additional software for operation. It's a plug-and-play device, which means you can set it up quickly and start using it right away. This straightforward approach is beneficial for environments where time is crucial, allowing for immediate access and operational efficiency with minimal setup time.

Can the CE700A support simultaneous users?

The CE700A is designed for a single user's use at a time. It connects one remote user to a computer's console, making it ideal for individual operational scenarios such as monitoring a server or controlling a workstation at a distance. For environments that require multi-user access, consider looking into other solutions that support user switching or multiple inputs.

What makes the CE700A ideal for educational settings?

The CE700A is ideal for educational settings due to its ability to extend USB and video connections, making it easier for instructors to access and control computers from anywhere in the room. This flexibility enhances classroom engagement by allowing educators to move freely while presenting content, facilitating interactive teaching without being tethered to their devices.

How is the CE700A powered?

The ATEN CE700A is powered over the Cat 5e/6 cable (Power over Ethernet - PoE), simplifying the installation process. This means that you won't need separate power cables, allowing for a cleaner setup without clutter. It’s especially advantageous in environments like data centers where power outlets can be limited or difficult to access.
